PURDAH - Branding Project

For this branding inspiration was drawn from the Rajput Miniature Paintings and the architecture of the Jharokhas from different Rajput Haweli’s and Palaces.

Purdah is an organic cotton curtain brand. The curtains are semisheer featuring ethnic prints with a twist.

A jharokha refers to a small window which was quite prevalent during the purdah system. The queens and females used to watch the events from behind these decorative jharokhas, which served the purpose of a canopy. The jharokhas were made in both wood or marble and sometimes mirrors were installed into those to give them a different look.

They could look outside through the Jharokhas but no one could look back inside. These Jharokha patterns were highly inspired by the islamic style as the mughals were invading Rajasthan around this time.

The final form of the logo were derived by filling in the jharokha grill pattern and the lotuses are taken from the miniature painting as they symbolise Purity and transcendence.
